Yes, LXi is compatible with QuarkXpress. QuarkXpress lacks the cutter drivers needed to convert its graphics into vinyl signs, but QuarkXpress users can export their art as.EPS or.AI files, and import them into LXI to be sent to the plotter.
The LXiVc is a 24” wide plastic cutter. There are in fact three 24” wide cutters, one on each side, so if you run two sets of vinyl on the same plotter, you’ll have two 24” wide cutters running at once. The LXiVc has two throats, one for narrow vinyl, and one for wider vinyl. They are run at the same time, and can be operated separately if desired. They are adjustable for various sizes of vinyl, and for materials. The plastic cutter has a large throat for the vinyl, and a small throat for the paper.
The actual cutter is a tube, about 3/4” in diameter, with a v-groove cut into it. The tube is mounted on a carriage that slides back and forth along the shaft that is connected to the motor. As the tube is moved back and forth, the material is cut. The cutter head is mounted on a spring loaded arm that can be extended to make the cut.
The cutter throat is adjusted by pulling on thumbscrews. They are spring loaded, so you don’t have to exert any force to adjust them. This is a great feature, and a big improvement on the older machines. The throat is then locked in place by a lock pin, and no further adjustment is required. The lock pin can be released by pulling on a pin on the back of the throat. There is a slot on the back of the throat for the lock pin.
The comic also influenced Fantastic Four, which I also enjoyed when I saw it, but I don't remember very much about it. I'm going to try and catch it on DVD at some point. I have a few issues of the Fantastic Four comic, but I haven't read them yet. If you're more of a fan of the movie than the comic, you'll probably like the comic more, though.
